After reviewing the tyrant of the outcast-like Decepticons, its now time to review the more heroic figure from the battle begins pack: Optimus Prime.

A bit of character description this time. Unlike all previous incarnations of Optimus Prime, he is not the Surpeme Commander of the Autobots. Instead, he is an Elite Guard washout who commands a team of what were once repair bots, now the protectors of the cit of Detroit, Michigan. For some reason, he has rivalry, almost hatred, of Sentinel Prime, a bully who never saw a Decepticon before and ironically is in the Elite Guard. Optimus also has troubles with ex-Autobot Elita 1, who was mutated into Blackarachnia when Prime could only save Sentinel from a disasterous encounter with giant-alien spider-mutants.

Vehicle mode:

Overall, an okay imitation of his g1 form, without his trailer of course. But you also get Megatron and a DVD in the set, its not all bad. Primary colors remain red and a dark blue, with a silver stripe and grill, and black battle damage along the left headlight and left windshield. Its okay, definately recognizible as a truck. The OVERSIZED axe he comes with can fit in the rear portion of the truck mode, but the axe head is clearly noticeable unless you are blind. Overall, its a good rendition of his G1 form in the animated style, but it feels as if something is missing.

Vehicle mode: 8/10

Transformation:

Same as Cybertron Mode Deluxe Optimus Prime, but instead of a sheild becoming the top of the truck, there is a siren, which must be popped off and placed on his back before the arms can be seperated. His hands also flip out of little holes instead of his left arm sliding up and down

Transformation: 8/10

Robot mode:

Same basic build as his Cybertron Version. But a lot of retooling. 1) Head has a non-removable mouthplate instead of a straight face. 2) His chest piece is different. You can barely feel it, but the window designs are actually molded on there, not painted. 3) No shield, a siren replaces this. 4) His hands which I mentioned earlier. 5) Instead of treads with little wheels on the bottom, he now has tires with two tires on each side of his rear truck mode/robot mode legs. The battle damage doesn't work as well as it does for Megatorn, not nearly as well, but it doesn't look awful. The battle damage is present on his faceplate, right shoulder, left side of the chest, and left side of his "belt". He also comes with an OVERSIZED axe, which looks like it was made for Voyager Prime, most likely a way to get hardcore fans to buy both the battle begins pack and voyager prime for fans to get the realistic axe for the VP. The axe does not stay still, and swivles around when I try moving it around in his hand. Joints aren't too tight or too loose.

Gimmicks:

1) Punching gimmick when you rotate his waist to the right (see my BB Megatron review). Again, not that bad if you have him bare-handed, or with the axe in the right position.

Robot mode: 8.5/10

Overall, a nice looking figure. Not nearly as good as Voyager Prime, but a good substitute if you can NEVER find Voyager Prime in stores, or find him online for a reasonable price. Megatron is the better figure in the battle begins pack, but BBPrime is nowhere near to being a bad figure, just not the best Prime.
