Do you think its the best series? I do

o...but I really do love G1 and grew up with it. However I enjoyed Beast Wars the most.

G1 all the way followed closely by animated

Well, no.

Sure, G1 was the first. With out it there would be no others. It will ALWAYS be special; it will ALWAYS be the most well known.

But that doesn't mean it's the best.

Really. Go back and rewatch G1 if you haven't in a while; I did. When I first got the G1 DVDs a few years ago, and saw the series for the first time, I thought it was awesome and equal to BW. Well, then I watched them again, and once the OMG G1 effect wore off, I realized...they were really bad. Sure, they're funny, they're typical 80s cartoons, but they are not the best TF series. I get a warm feeling inside me every time I watch them, like I'm seeing the rise of the TF franchise, but the shows by themselves aren't really that good.

Seriously, Megatron, go build a giant purple griffin to beat all your enemies. That was the best thing you ever did.

Buy the BW DVDs or watch them on youtube. Get the G1 DVDs or watch them on youtube. Still like G1 better? Get your parents/wife/non-TF fans to the best of BW and then get them to watch the best of G1. See what they like better.

G1 is good for us fans. It means something to us.

BW is good for us fans, too, but it's also watchable by other humans. It has a plot. It has a point. It has humor that can be appreciated by all ages. It has death handled in a serious way. It has shades of gray, likable villains, plots within plots, consistent animation (yes, now is when you point out that they used Rattrap's old body in Dingbat’s funeral. Yet! Now go and watch an episode of G1; in one single episode you'll probably see as many animation errors as in the entire series of BW), and characters with depth.

So, there's my two cents.

yes because it was hand drawn, and the designs and ideas were original and good, unlike the accursed half organics lol (jk), the plot (when they followed it) was pretty good and animation errors happen when it's not machines doing the drawing. i would have loved to get into animation, but now, i don't feel like typing it into a computer, or moving a model around with a mouse, it wouldn't be fun.

I really love he technological advances we have made with animation but G1 is by far the best. I bought the DVD's as they appeared on the shelves and my daughter and I enjoy them every weekend. I think animated is right behind G1 but thats only because the story seems more involved than G1 Megatrons next big idea.

Leaving nostalgia aside, there are TF shows way better now, with better characterisation, story, graphics, etc.

First in my heart will always be G1. But its not the best, and I acknowledge it. Best would be both Beast Wars and Animated.

IMO, tho, it does have the best score because I always favor real orchestral over anything computer generated. And the painted backgrounds...and it had by far the most work put into it animating the characters. Every single character (yes, even the Seekers) had dozens of slightly or radically different details that the animators had to keep track of for EVERY SINGLE CEL, and in the case of the Seekers, in robot mode they looked exactly alike in line art so I can see why the low-paid and overworked animators would get mixed up so often. You would too if you had to pump out multiple pictures of dozens of different complicated characters a day, regardless of whether or not you had a guide sheet or color guide cels staring you in the face.

Heck, the series probably sent many of them to a home for animators driven mad.

As far as good ole fashioned story-telling is concerned, no G1 is not the best. But if you take into consideration all that has been said here that was GOOD about the Sunbow production, and consider the fact it is singlehandedly respocible for all other TF's shows, its understandable, imo, why someone would consider it the best.
