Universe POWERGLIDE Review

Postby Azrael on Tue Aug 12, 2008 1:21 am

Powerglide was one of the first new molds unveiled for the New Universe line. The majority of fans were immediately drooling in anticipation of him (as happens every time a G1 character receives what would be considered a "faithful" update). Well, after a long delay Universe 2.0 has hit shelves and Powerglide is winging his way to the loyal fan base once more.

Powerglide's Vehicle Mode is an A-10 Warthog aircraft, just like his G1 counterpart. Some people have pointed out a resemblance to one of the Superion Maximus limbs (i'm too lazy to look up which one; its the mold with the engine-hands and goggle face). The colorscheme is practically a mirror of G1; being almost pure white with minor red trim.

Its very unusual that a figure from the smallest size class in G1 is now an inaugural figure for the largest size class in Universe (or PRESUMED largest size class; I'm going out on a limb and guessing that there won't be any Leaders or Supremes in the Universe line).

Initial pics of Powerglide's Robot Mode gave me serious doubts about the figures quality. I can some it up in 3 words-

STONKING. GREAT. TITS.

Through some unusual designing coupled with typical Freudian-type observance, Powerglide appears to have a chest rivaling most Playboy centerfolds.

And the size displacement is quite odd. Powerglide's entire upper torso is HUGE but he has thin legs and relatively weak arms.

Aside from the size/shape issues, articulation is very good. The wings dont' exactly lock into the main body as well as I would've liked.

I'm a bit concerned about the quality of plastic on Powerglide. I've only transformed him about four times so far and already I'm noticing stress marks on some of the lower wing joints.

All things considered, Powerglide's a great toy and my initial impressions of him were way off. He's fun to play with and I'm glad I added him to my shelves.
